On this day, February 5th, Aaron Chwatt, better known as Red Buttons is born in New York City. Buttons was an actor and performer. He began his career doing Burlesque shows becoming a big name on Broadway. His nickname was given to him by Charles “Dinty” Moore because when he worked as a bellhop he had bright red hair and large shiny buttons. In 1943 Buttons was drafted into the Army Air Force, after serving he continued his acting career. Buttons is well known for his appearances in films and television shows such as The Poseidon Adventure, Pete’s Dragon, Little House on the Prairie,Roseanne and ER. Buttons’ last role was as a homeless man on the television show, Knot’s Landing.
